31 – Edmonton-Ellerslie 3.42% - RPAAlberta is no stranger to conservative fragmenting and frequent discontent with those in power (often with good reason), but what should we make of this newish, allegedly conservative Republican Party of Alberta? Their wiki page3 contains this:

Colours Red
Now what follows is just my opinion, so take it or leave it — without a blood-pressure incident!
First, I think they made a mistake in their colour choice of red. The same mistake that the American Republicans made many years ago.4 Red is not the colour of conservative blue and has a seriously strong connection with the opposite ideology.5
Second, the colour-blind mistake has been compounded by a tone-deafness in the name of their party. I would lay odds that most independent-, separatist-prone Albertans are not “pro-Americanism” (aka USianism) nor Republican in the way the RPA might imagine in their dreams and chats. Yes, there are a lot of fine USians south of our border with a fantastic Constitution that has inspired the world, BUT, (and it’s a big BUT) if one knows the underbelly of their history6 over the past 100 years or so, one knows they have become a seriously hypocritical nation, whether headed by Republicans or Democrats.7 (Blood pressure?) The USians have allowed their governments to mock their Constitution time after time without demanding full exposure and accountability — re-electing the same offenders, time after time.. (You know, rather like we Canadians with our governments and Constitution!) The whole of North America is in precipitous decline, and clamming, like a barnacle, onto the sinking ship of the U.S.A. is not a thinking (wo)man’s idea of swimming free. To pursue another metaphor: if we can’t save the current frying pan of Canada, leaping into the inferno of our southern neighbour is exponentially worse. If we are forced to swim free, let’s swim on our own, or synchronize with Saskatchewan (and maybe Manitoba and BC) if all else fails. But first, let us make an honest, persistent, vociferous effort to renegotiate Confederation. And let us not imagine that the name Republican,8 in this day and age, is a thing to print on our foreheads.
Third, why is conservative Alberta always fighting to split the conservative vote? Or are these just pretend conservatives? Or do they consider themselves bluer than blue such that they only see red when their right-ideology is watered down past their liking or ego? Dividing conservatives does nothing but elect the opposition.
Fourth, Do the Alberta Republicans imagine they can escape the hubris, corruption, honey-potting, and self-serving — the R.I.C.E.9 fest — that dances about every power structure. The “sins” they lament in others are already at their party.

History
The Buffalo Party of Alberta was registered as a political party with Elections Alberta on January 20, 2022.[4] The first leader of the party was John Molberg.[5] The party held a launch event in Calgary on May 12, 2022.[6]
The party ran one candidate, Andrew Jacobson, in the 2023 Alberta provincial election in the district Edmonton-Strathcona.[7]
In March 2024, Andrew Jacobson was listed by Elections Alberta as the new interim leader of the party.[8][9]
On February 10, 2025, the party changed its name to the Republican Party of Alberta.[8]
On April 11, 2025, Cameron Davies was acclaimed as the new leader.[10] The party made the announcement of his leadership on April 29.[11][12]
On May 14, 2025, the party announced its first candidate since their rebranding. The party announced that Fred Munn would run as their candidate in the Edmonton-Ellerslie by-election.[13] On May 20, leader Cameron Davies was announced as the candidate for the Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills by-election.[14] On May 27, Ravina Chand was named the candidate in the Edmonton-Strathcona by-election.[15] These by elections were held on June 23, 2025.
