For nigh ninety years, if not longer, we have been living in a fantasy land created for us by the (supposedly deserving) rich and famous. And the thing we keep not mentioning is how most of them got to be rich and famous in a world order (WO) addicted to power, gain, and fame (sometimes*). So once again, I refer readers to someone who has been mentioning and naming and exposing a myriad horrors that We The People (as a critical mass) must begin to openly acknowledge and refuse to tolerate:

The Unmentionables?

What do the powers-that-be in our secular society resist acknowledging?

Angels, spirits, principalities, powers, gods, Satan— these, along with all other spiritual realities, are the unmentionables of our culture. The dominant materialistic worldview has absolutely no place for them. These archaic relics of a superstitious past are unspeakable because modern secularism simply has no categories, no vocabulary, no presuppositions by which to discern what it was in the actual experiences of people that brought these words to speech. And it has massive resistance even to thinking about these phenomena, having fought so long and hard to rid itself of every vestige of transcendence.¹

To a degree far beyond current recognition, the myth of materialism has served as such an integrating agent for modern society, but it has been an integration bought at the cost of what is most human, most aesthetic, and most meaningful in life.²

Having repressed the spiritual so long, however, we no longer have ready access to it. The wells of the spirit have run dry. We can scarcely rediscover in a few generations what it has taken the race millennia to learn by costly trial and error. So we find ourselves returning to the ancient traditions, searching for wisdom wherever it may be found. We do not capitulate to the past and its superstitions, but bring all the gifts our race has acquired along the way as aids in recovering the lost language of our souls.³

How much will we allow ourselves to see? to hear? to understand?

Remembering Velikovsky*?

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the death of Immanuel Velikovsky,* so perhaps today is a propitious day to remember how emotional and blind some scientists can be when their standard models and hard priors¹ are challenged with new observations, theories, facts, interpretations, or analyses by such iconoclasts as Velikovsky.

Amongst other things, Velikovsky challenged the “settled science” of uniformitarianism² and thus severely offended uniformists who are still triggered to this day by the name “Velikovsky.” Many of I.V.'s critics disparaged his research of worldwide myths, legends, and ancient stories as he reconsidered and reconstructed “settled” science and history. How (in their view) could any credence be given to “primitive,” “celestial/terrestrial” myths generated by superstitious ante- and post-diluvians? — this knee-jerk dismissal despite the far-from-primitive art and architecture of these so-called primitives! And much less will these uniformists ever give thought to a simple (catastrophist?) Galilean fisherman turned evangelist who wrote circa 1,900 years before Velikovsky:

4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

When one looks back over history, one sees so much déjà vu in the dogmas of science — how oft the wagons of old (but transitioning) science encircle offenders so as to constrain their exposure and influence and to more easily target them when they persist in their “pseudoscientific sins.” In our own day, many dogmatists still hold to the inadequate standard model with all its puzzles, inconsistencies, and anomalies, and refuse to consider the possibilities and answers increasingly found in the “Electric Universe” (EU) model⁴ which they also aggressively disparage with the same dismissive, misrepresenting brush. For them, EU is too tainted with Velikovsky to merit even a sideways glance.

How often has this happened in other fields of serious study such as that very touchy subject, demonic possession?

More might be known about possession had scientists early in the century not defined the phenomenon as nonexistent and simply ignored it. One of the greatest scientists of that day, William James, vehemently objected: “The refusal of modern ‘enlightenment’ to treat possession as a hypothesis to be spoken of as even possible, in spite of the mass of human tradition based on concrete experience in its favor, has always seemed to me to be a curious example of the power of fashion in things scientific.”⁵

Once again we witness how power plays play-on to the detriment of knowledge and truth, even in lauded science. So perhaps the coming year 2020 will be a good year to read or re-read Velikovsky; perhaps too, to take up serious study of the Electric Universe, and to make our own judgments instead of just reading minority (disparaging) opinions and reports that claim to be majority ones (without offering a smidgen of scientific proof!).

Do actions speak louder than words? I suppose time will tell as it always has throughout history, but what if we could discern real intentions, real beliefs, real personality behind entrancing words without having to wait for the passage of time to confirm their trueness through action? What if, in this age of image, spectacle, manipulation, and propaganda we had a way to measure sincerity? Perhaps it would prove an imperfect measure, but a beginning.

So, if an impressive, inspiring, value-laden speech¹ is delivered in a robotic, passionless voice, what should we make of it? Should we be cautious and cognizant of potential inversions when it comes time for action? time for truly defending Constitutional values and the Bill of Rights? How skeptical should we be, especially when contrasting the inspiring words with spontaneous, vigorous, unscripted words that contradict the claimed values or that foster conflict, confusion, misunderstanding, and are oft-filled with insults and disparagements? How do we distinguish myth-making (-wishing?) from reality?

The Making of Tyrants?

Are Trump supporters¹ so caught in hard priors,² they see and hear nothing that challenges their loyalty? It is stunning that Trump's lawyer, William Consovoy, could have argued in federal court this past week that the President (and presumably any president hereafter) has absolute immunity from prosecution, even from investigation, for any criminal act, including murder, while in office.³

Generally, one does not need to venture beyond Trump's own words (if one would actually listen to all of them) to fathom “the making of a tyrant,” but this past week, the “absolute immunity” concept was presented in open court.⁴

It is equally stunning how brief and passing the coverage of this “absolute immunity” claim was, even by anti-trumpeteers. Here we have another arrow aimed at the heart of the Constitution while we swiftly turn away as if such words mean nothing—as if they had never been said—as if such absolute immunity would not incentivize the final overturn of our severely wounded rule of law—severely wounded by decades of secrecy and un-prosecuted criminal acts and affiliations by (so-called) intelligence agencies, their “assets,” willing servants, and dupes. What have the last 243 years been for if we forget history—forget all the déjà vus that prove:

“Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men”⁵?

And also consider:

“Ethics and oversight are what you eliminate when you want absolute power.”⁶

And is this not an apt description?

“He can switch from one view to another with frightening ease. I think it is a sign of being accustomed to such power that the truth does not matter because you cannot be contradicted.”⁷

How near are we to the tipping point where secret immunity for secret teams becomes open immunity for usurpers​ of  “absolute” power whether achieved via manufactured crisis, manipulated consent, or outright violation of Constitutional terms, limits, and principles?

NOTE: this criticism in no way endorses Trump's opponents. The corruption and deception are ubiquitous on both the Right and Left. It's all about power and plays for greater power, gain, and concealment of corruption and deception. The Right and Left are not opposites. It's all pretty much faux, faux, faux—faux socialists, faux polarity,⁸ faux wealth, faux greatness, faux freedoms, faux elections, faux democracy, faux choice, faux etc., etc.

Yes, how déjà vu the pattern played out by tyrants and those seeking so to be with their sycophants and loyalists, both hidden and visible, both to the so-called Right and to the so-called Left!

So what can we do? We can strive to be aware; to be vocal, to be honest, and to pray unceasingly for the repentance and redemption of US ALL into the better nature and purposes of our creation and Being.

Conspiracy Deniers (In a Nutshell)

If one has ever read the Wikipedia entry for “Conspiracy Theory,”¹ it reads like a propaganda piece straight out of Edward Bernays'² playbook wherein he postulates:

“The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country.”³

And what does the “invisible government” seek to consciously and intelligently manipulate? our memories? awareness? language? definitions? history? common sense? moral compass?

Amusingly, it seems that the “asset” that drafted Wiki's “Conspiracy Theory” wasn't on-hand to draft the “Conspiracy” entry:

A conspiracy is a secret plan or agreement between persons (called conspirers or conspirators) for an unlawful or harmful purpose, such as murder or treason, especially with political motivation, while keeping their agreement secret from the public or from other people affected by it. In a political sense, conspiracy refers to a group of people united in the goal of usurping, altering or overthrowing an established political power. Depending on the circumstances, a conspiracy may also be a crime, or a civil wrong.⁴

NOR was the drafter on deck for the lengthy, linked “list of political conspiracies”⁵—a partial list beginning with 1552 BCE. Nor did anyone refer to the admitted conspiracies of Operation Northwoods;⁶ nor numerous other Conspiracy Operations / Projects eventually proven like: Paperclip, Chaos, Condor, Mockingbird, Popeye, Phoenix, etc., etc., etc.⁷ Nor did anyone acknowledge the numerous conspiracy references in Scripture.⁸

Conspiracy is so endemic to human nature, literature, and history that it boggles the conscious mind that any thinking soul can so disdainfully dismiss causal explorations for events as flagrant, unreasonable, paranoid, unsupportable, bunk theorizing. Besides, what is theory anyway, but a way to explore or understand events from a background of prior and continuing observation and experience? If only we would permit ourselves to see things as they really are and then have the chutzpah to refuse intimidation by Bernayzian manipulators (which constitute conspiracies in and of themselves).

Of course, not all events have conspirators, but to shut ourselves off from a 360° investigation of an event is to invite deception upon deception by persons without conscience (PWOCs) who have elevated themselves to positions of high power by “virtue” of our gullibility, passivity, or apathy. Plainly put, PWOCs are conspiracy and power junkies concealing hypocrisy beneath masks of genius and merit.

If old Isaiah is right that this world turns things upside down,⁹ let us re-vert the Wikipedia definition of conspiracy theory¹⁰:

A conspiracy theory is [a possible] explanation of an event or situation that invokes a conspiracy by sinister and powerful actors, often political in motivation wh[ich is statistically probable considering the history of conspiracies throughout the ages]. The term has [been given] a pejorative connotation [as a diversion and cover by ”Intelligence” manipulators], implying that the appeal to a conspiracy is based on prejudice or insufficient evidence [which is often the reverse of the case]. Conspiracy theor[y deny-ers] resist [evidence] and are reinforced by circular reasoning: both evidence [for] the conspiracy and an absence of evidence [against] it, are re-interpreted as evidence of [no conspiracy] and the [“perceived” lack of] conspiracy becomes a matter of faith rather than proof.

Science is always pursuing theories as are criminal investigators—thus pursuing a theory might be the beginning of wisdom. Therefore, let us refuse henceforth to be manipulated by Bernayzian patsies and devotees. Let us re-badge “conspiracy theorist” as a theorist / analyst who explores and views the world as it often is, was, and will in all likelihood continue.

Do we need a new word?

Here's an old one: boondoggle (pronounced boon -dog-gull):

A boondoggle is a project that is considered a waste of both time and money, yet is often continued due to extraneous policy or political motivations.

A boondoogle occurs when a corporation or entity that began its existence with a vision of service to humanity and with a mantra such as “Don't Be Evil,”¹ BUT, due to the rapid accumulation of wealth and a burgeoning sense of omniscience, omnipotence, and omnipresence, loses its way and falls into an inversion of purpose.
   [Usage example: The ABC Corp did a boondoogle.]

Should we be surprised at this boondoogle considering the spirit of power³ that seems to overwhelm most institutions and people who come anywhere near the seduction so perfectly described 180 years ago?

We have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of almost all men [and institutions], as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion.⁴

In the words of Walter Wink:

An institution becomes demonic when it abandons its divine vocation for the pursuit of its own idolatrous goals.⁵

Exposing the delusional system is the central ascetical task in our discernment of the Powers. For the Powers are never more powerful than when they can act from concealment. ... to masquerade as the permanent furniture of the universe, to make the highly contingent structures of current oppression appear to be of divine construction—such is the genius of their deceptive art.⁶

The mighty prefer, therefore, to rule by means of invisible constraints: unseen filaments tied to the public's arms and legs, and imperceptible spiritual brain-implants causing the masses to will to be what has been made of them.⁷

But Wink also says:

The Powers are not intrinsically evil; they are only fallen. What sinks can be made to rise again. We are freed, then, from the temptation to satanize the perpetrators of evil. We can love our nation or church or school, [or corporation] not blindly, but critically, recalling it to its own highest self-professed ideals and identities. We can challenge these institutions to live up to the vocation that is theirs by virtue of their sheer createdness. We can oppose their actions while honoring their necessity.⁸

The Fall does not mean that everything we do is evil, vain, or hopeless, but merely that it is all ambiguous, tainted with egocentricity, subject to deflection from its divine goal, or capable of being co-opted toward other ends.⁹

Perhaps this current boondoogle is just one more ironic fulfillment of old Isaiah's words from circa 700 BCE?

[T]heir works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us? Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter's clay: ...¹⁰

Let us, WE THE PEOPLE, find ways to help turn these boondoogles back to their high vocations and potentials.¹¹

Let us muster the courage to speak of the “spirituality of institutions”:

Any attempt to transform a social system without addressing both its spirituality and its outer forms is doomed to failure. Only by confronting the spirituality of an institution and its concretions can the total entity be transformed, and that requires a kind of spiritual discernment and praxis that the materialistic ethos in which we live knows nothing about. To put the thesis of these three volumes in its simplest form: The Powers are good. The Powers are fallen. The Powers must be redeemed.¹²

THE Hundredth Monkey?

(Thoughts sparked by two friends' advocacy of “The Hundredth Monkey Effect.”)

“The hundredth monkey effect is a hypothetical phenomenon in which a new behaviour or idea is claimed to spread rapidly by unexplained means from one group to all related groups once a critical number of members of one group [critical mass] exhibit the new behaviour or acknowledge the new idea.¹ (Italic emphasis added).

When I hear about a concept that I haven't studied, I try to research both advocates and skeptics of it (see ● below). The “hundredth monkey effect” (HME), that my friends repeatedly spoke of over the past few days immediately raised cautionary flags and questions:

1. In the 40-odd years since the HME idea surfaced, have we observed any replication of it anywhere in nature—where knowledge or behaviors acquired by another or others transferred suddenly, mysteriously (mind to mind) to all members of a group?
2. Is the HME an unproven extrapolation from what has been called “spooky action at a distance”² as observed in the subatomic world of quantum mechanics?—that deep-level, foundational world where strange things like nonlocality and entanglement are claimed to occur?³ where matter apparently manifests in ways contrary to our general experience and awareness of being local and un-entangled? But, has any of this been proven or is it all still theoretical?⁴ Maybe Richard Feynman is still right: “I think I can safely say that nobody understands quantum mechanics.”⁵
3. Is the HME just an imaginary shortcut⁶ to knowledge without regard to preparation, effort, study, motivation, desire, openness, willingness, observation, etc.?
4. Isn't the idea of “critical mass” a collectivist notion?—that individual advancement depends on a collective to shift the world to a new consciousness? (Like Mark Passio's longed-for 51 %?)
5. Is this idea not a recipe for disappointment, anger, and conflict with those who delay or refuse to augment the critical mass of the enlightened? (Just listen to a recent Passio!⁷)
6. If persons are sovereign, enlightened individuals (as many claim), why are they so bound to this dimension by the uncooperative, unenlightened collective? Is it by contract? by agreement? by sacrifice?
7. Isn't the goal of critical mass, the mid-game⁸ of most LGATs⁹ (Large Group Awareness Training) with their promises of raising consciousness of attendees and unpaid volunteers?
8. Does the HME keep believers in continual pursuit and recruitment of the critical ONE—THAT TIPPING POINT person?
9. Could the HME be another manifestation of “science in crisis”?¹⁰
10. Is there new age, paranormal purpose in keeping the HME idea alive?

A Message to the Mark Passios of this World

Yes, there are huge problems in this world (with order-followers being a major one), but how do we listen to you without remembering how déjà vu you sound? how familiar your “righteous” tirades against “undesirables”? how repetitive the preludes to tyranny and justification?

Words matter, so perhaps it is time to review the words of Philip Zimbardo of the Standford Prison Experiment and author of The Lucifer Effect.¹

One of the worst things that we can do to our fellow human beings is deprive them of their humanity, render them worthless by exercising the psychological process of dehumanization. This occurs when the “others” are thought not to possess the same feelings, thoughts, values, and purposes in life that we do. Any human qualities that these “others” share with us are diminished or are erased from our awareness. This is accomplished by the psychological mechanisms of intellectualization, denial, and the isolation of affect. In contrast to human relationships, which are subjective, personal, and emotional, dehumanized relationships are objectifying, analytical, and empty of emotional or empathic content.

We Told You So

To the many debunkers / mockers of “conspiracy theories”:

Perhaps it is time to reconsider world history and ask:

▪  why so many fiction and movie plots deal in conspiracy and secret combinations?

▪  why the same applies to many, many nonfiction books and documentaries?

▪  why so many investigations and court cases reveal secret works to achieve criminal or deceptive agendas?

AND perhaps it is way past time to finally admit that there are more people without conscience (PWOCs) in this world (and throughout history) than we would like to admit whose driving purpose in life is/was to become rich, powerful, or famous at any cost, OR who are/were possessed by a spirit of domination and/or cruelty.

More than once upon a recent time, a recycling cabal of control fanatics (CoCF²) have met in regular, secret session to brainstorm how best to sucker the masses into a creeping, global tyranny. Here is an abbreviated summary:³

»  Create (or preferably steal) social media platforms where persons, under the impression of sharing with family and friends are sharing personal details with the CoCF.
»  Front the (stolen?) platforms with CoCF kids to give the impression of accidental, serendipitous invention by common kids of genius.
»  Give free stuff with hidden agendas of surveillance [gifts with guile] having secret back doors in everything in order to monitor, manage, manipulate, malign as needed..
»  Get ordinary citizens to buy listening and seeing devices for use in their (supposedly) private spaces under the guise of wondrous convenience where everything they say and do can be seen, heard, and recorded unbeknownst to them (or in the alternative, under the belief that officials or power-brokers would never betray their privacy and trust).
»  Mix-up real and fake so no one can discern fact from fiction.
»  Turn the tables on whistle-blowers, accusing and convicting them of CoCF crimes they sought to expose. In other words: Lie, malign. Lie, malign. Repeat.
»  Turn the tables on expendable accomplices, accusing, convicting, and/or suiciding them as "lone-wolfers" for crimes orchestrated by the CoCF. In other words: Deflect deny. Deflect, deny. Repeat.
»  Convince patriots and people with conscience to run drugs and weapons under the illusion they are helping authorities ferret out sellers and users of drugs and weapons.
»  Convince citizens to do whatever authorities ask (e.g., crimes under color of high and moral purpose) to expose communist, socialist threats to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
»  Create financial crises so that more common folk are available to participate in organized surveillance / stalking of persons alleged or assessed to be potential threats to CoCF agendas.
»  Infiltrate every good thing (including NGOs, churches, charities, societies, clubs, etc., etc.) with the purpose of assessing threats, and where needed, of fomenting division, corruption, compromise, and control.
»  Fund science to find ways to confuse and/or manipulate meanings, morals, minds, nature, climate, health, gender, etc., etc., etc.
»  Psy-op the masses into romancing and conflating power and wealth with morals, virtue, and just desserts.
»  Solicit, train, and fund trolls, shills, and spokesmen to further CoCF agendas with cacophonous repetition.
»  Dumb the masses with donuts, drugs, dramas, whodunits, double-binds, double-takes, double-dealing, double-face, double-tongue, double-entendre, etc., etc.
»  Distract from awareness of things as they really are with whatever works best in similitude of targeted, personalized advertising.
»  Own, compromise, or manage MSM personalities, so "news” and talking points obscure the BIG picture and further the agenda of division, distraction, deception, manipulation, and control.
»  Orchestrate subtle, sophisticated entrapment schemes to bring politicians and power-brokers into the orbit of CoCF manipulation and control (ostensibly under a threat-assessment program).
»  Create the term conspiracy theorist to mock exposure of unwelcome facts and to denigrate knowledge of history and its numberless, conspiracy déjà vus.
»  Deflect, project, deny. Deflect, project, deny. Repeat.
»  Etc., etc., etc.

The list of stratagems to sucker are endless, but are regularly revealed by whistle-blowers, truth-tellers, and truth-seekers, many of whom have already been referenced or profiled in over a decade of Déjà Vu posts.

Classic Capitalism for Romantics?

(This post and the previous one—Natural or Unnatural?—were triggered by a recent post entitled, Socialism for Dummies And Nature for the Savvy.¹)

What does one say to Econ Romantics¹ when seeing they see not? when hearing they hear not? And what is it they do not see and hear? Could it be the real world of nature and human nature²? Could it be the contradictions in their own reasoning?

How do we always get to the state of "crony-, corrupted-, monopolistic-, fascist- capitalism" if it is not via the romantic notions of free, unregulated, invisible-hand dynamics that allows the natural man³ and his Systems to do their own thing for their own (so-called) best interest? Adam Smith's invisible-hand may have some application to small, local economies, but go national, mega, or global and the natural, capitalist hand always becomes a fist.

Indeed, what a boon the romantic construct of “free markets” has proven for people without conscience (PWOCs) in a real world where too many meet the criteria of psychopathy⁴—where corporations (CWOEs) rate even worse.⁵ Even Adam Smith knew that  the trio of competition, profit motive, and human nature was a toxic mix that a Utopian notion of “free markets” could not survive:

People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices. It is impossible indeed to prevent such meetings, by any law which either could be executed, or would be consistent with liberty and justice. But though the law cannot hinder people of the same trade from sometimes assembling together, it ought to do nothing to facilitate such assemblies, much less to render them necessary. (The Wealth of Nations, p. 148—I.X.I)

When masters combine together in order to reduce the wages of their workmen, they commonly enter into a private bond or agreement not to give more than a certain wage under a certain penalty. Were the workmen to enter into a contrary combination of the same kind, not to accept of a certain wage under a certain penalty, the law would punish them very severely; and if it dealt impartially, it would treat the masters in the same manner. (The Wealth of Nations, p. 164—I.X.I)

Adam Smith even recognized the meritocracy trap:

... This disposition to admire, and almost to worship, the rich and the powerful, and to despise, or, at least, to neglect, persons of poor and mean condition, though necessary both to establish and to maintain the distinction of ranks and the order of society, is, at the same time, the great and most universal cause of the corruption of our moral sentiments. That wealth and greatness are often regarded with the respect and admiration which are due only to wisdom and virtue; and that the contempt, of which vice and folly are the only proper objects, is often most unjustly bestowed upon poverty and weakness, has been the complaint of moralists in all ages. (The Theory of Moral Sentiments, p. 58—I.III.III)

Is not the current college admissions scam⁶ the perfect exposure of meritocracy posturing? that what we call meritocracy often has an underbelly of vice and folly, faking and fraud, entitlement and egoism, oppression and suppression, crime and corruption?

When will the Econ Romantics finally admit that classic capitalism is a phantom construct that could never survive unredeemed human nature?—a human nature that has manifest in every age, beginning with Cain⁷? a human nature exacerbated by a competitive system and spirit that stimulates the worst aspects of the natural man? a competitive system that rewards greed, corruption, and conspiracy? If the word conspiracy bothers anyone, just re-read Adam Smith above—just review the entire history of those pursuing and protecting power and gain.

Take this romantic statement:

In a free-market economy as in nature, when something emerges that is non-natural and which tries to block nature and prevents the natural system from running, that non-natural element is quickly rooted out. Hence, the classic, capitalist, natural economy has built in protections against greed and corruption.⁸

Yet in numerous paragraphs that author laments the corruption of so-called classic capitalism. But if the "classic, capitalist, natural  economy has built in protections," why has this “natural” economy not corrected the greed and corruption that characterizes the present system? How does classic capitalism expect to protect against fear and favor paradigms that PWOCs exploit to further their power and gain agendas? How does classic capitalism expect people-WITH-conscience to freely and fairly compete with PWOCs who will say and do anything for the sake of increasing power and gain—to "ensure [their] own survival"? with PWOCs who seek to compromise and corrupt everyone and everything for the sake of domination? How does classic capitalism expect to "control" PWOCs without violating the "free" in free-markets?

The simple, historical truth is that free-markets can never survive PWOCs. PWOCs love the romance of free competition. In economics, competition is the very toxin that poisons "free and fair." Competition justifies and rationalizes most of what PWOCs do for power and gain. Thus, as long as we romanticize power and wealth in place of “wisdom and virtue,” we fall squarely into “the complaint of moralists in all ages” (as Adam Smith says) and into the concentrations of power and wealth in the hands of a few PWOCs running CWOEs.

Competition for profit and market-dominance is the heart and gut of capitalism, but, as usual, romantic, classic capitalists shunt the natural, inevitable consequences of competition (concentration, corruption, conspiracy, disparity, elitism, etc., etc.) onto the tyrannies of socialism—a conflation and projection that boggles plain and simple observation—manifesting a classic blind spot that might warrant a reading of Blindspot: Hidden Biases of Good People and an in-depth consideration of The Powers That Be: Theology for a New Millennium.

Do we really think that competition is a heavenly value? How much advancement and artistry have we forfeited because competition was the paradigm we preferred over freely-chosen cooperation and sharing? What would our world be like if more of us chose the better-half of our dual natures—freely sharing our skills, gifts, and potential—becoming unnatural beings—refusing to be corrupted by the dueling fists of socialism and capitalism?⁹ As one writer observes:

Mammon is wiser in its way than the dictator, for money enslaves not by force but by love.¹⁰

What if most disparities and poverty are inevitable by-products of a competitive system (classic or otherwise) that blatantly rewards greed, corruption, and dominance?—that penalizes transparency and integrity? What if we promoted a system that encouraged and rewarded the gifts and potentials¹¹ of every human from a win-win perspective instead of the win-lose of competition? a system that rewarded the best of the individual within society and society within the individual? a system that honored values beyond profit and bottom line? a system that was not a toxin but an elixir favoring transformation?

What if we are already witnessing a blossoming of cooperation and sharing that is beginning to transform parts of our world? Has humanity ever shared so freely and so much (e.g., apps, podcasts, videos, themes, plugins, photos, books, wikis, crowd-funding, open source, gifts-without-guile, etc., etc.)? What if Daniel Pink is right that there is a greater motivator than money¹²—a motivator that competitive capitalism may not comprehend (may even try to corrupt) because it cannot put a price to it?

What if we could, person by person, business by business, begin shifting away from the poisons of competition and bottom-line obsession into a paradigm of freely-chosen cooperation and sharing? Would it make a difference if our economic system appealed to the best in human nature instead of the worst or instead of crushing the human spirit? Would we find more truth and hope for humanity—fewer lies about the poor and disadvantaged; less romanticism about powerful, wealthy elites—if we fostered and honored the Spirit of Cooperation above that of competition and/or control?
